Spartans Add Proven Scorer

The Almaguin Spartans are thrilled to announce the addition of Moncton, New Brunswick native Nash Smith. The 2000 Forward returns to the Spartans after playing two seasons with the Grand Falls Rapids of the MJAHL, where he put up 27 goals and 21 assists for 48 points in 68 games. In 2018-2019 with the Spartans Smith put up 31 goals and 19 assists for 50 points in 41 games.
Spartans General Manager David Forde had this to say about the addition of Smith “We are very happy to have Nash back in our program. In 2018/2019 he was a strong top 6 forward for us and really developed as a player due to the training and coaching in our program, as well as the situations we put him in. A strong season here, really boosted Nash’s confidence and allowed him to go to Grand Falls and be an impact player for them right away, finishing second on the team in goals in his first season.
Nash has what very few players naturally have and that’s the ability to score goals. He is a pure goal scorer and that comes from knowing where to be and willing to always shoot the puck. Too often players at this level hold on to the puck too long and eliminate scoring chances for themselves because of it. Nash see’s opportunities and does not hesitate to try and score. Having him in our line up is a big addition for us. I think he can score 40 goals this season and quite possibly be the 2nd 50 goal scorer in Spartan’s history, joining Matthew Labrosse who scored 50 goals in 2018. I have high expectations for Nash on and off the ice and think he is going to be a great veteran leader for our younger players.
Nash’s goal is to come here, train hard, develop a more complete game, put up strong offensive numbers and secure himself a good contract in Europe for next season. I am very confident with the contacts within our organization, Nash’s work ethic and talent, that he will be playing for a very good organization in Europe next fall.”
